Find an old employer's 401(k) or pension.
401k Lookup shows every retirement plan a large employer has filed with the U.S. Department of Labor since 2009: who runs it today, how to reach the plan, and where the money went if the plan closed, merged or failed. Search a company you used to work for. Free, no account, and it never asks for your Social Security number.
The problem
Old retirement accounts get lost when companies change.
People leave jobs, companies are sold, plans merge into the buyer's plan or shut down, and the firm that runs the plan changes. Years later, the question is simple: who has my 401(k) or pension now? The answer is on file with the government. Every plan files a public annual report, Form 5500, but the Department of Labor publishes them one filing at a time, and the free consumer site that once organized them has closed.
401k Lookup joins every annual report since 2009 into one history per plan. It shows the recordkeeper by year, the plan administrator's phone and address as filed, and the trail when a plan merged into another company's plan, closed, or was taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
In the product
Every plan, what happened to it, and who to call.
Each employer page lists all of its 401(k), pension and other retirement plans, active ones first, with participants and assets by year, the recordkeeper, the plan administrator's contact details, and plain steps for finding money in a plan that closed or merged.
